He Finds Us in the Chaos

I’ll never forget the day I had to start over at a new high school. Same city, but a completely different school—and I was joining three months into the school year.

My brother had certain classes he could only take at this particular high school, but my mom wanted us to attend the same one. The problem was, it took until the middle of the first semester for the transfer to be approved. I already knew many of the students because we had gone to school together before, but our house was zoned for a different school, which is where I was originally placed.

I walked into my new school on probably the strangest day possible—Halloween. The halls were filled with students in colorful costumes, laughing, shouting, and greeting their friends. I didn’t recognize a single face. I clutched my schedule and quietly made my way to my first class, wondering if I’d have to wait until tomorrow to see anyone I knew.

But after first period, during the passing period, something unexpected happened. A boy walked straight up to me with a big smile and said, “Hey, I know your brother! Welcome!” I was surprised, but it didn’t stop there. All throughout the day, student after student came up to me with similar greetings. Each time, my heart felt warmer. My brother’s kindness had left such an impression on these people that they recognized me and made a point to make me feel included.

That day reminded me of how Jesus works in our lives. He finds us in the middle of the chaos—when we feel like outsiders, unsure if we belong. When we feel invisible, He steps into the hallway of our hearts and calls us by name.

Jesus was kind to everyone, even to those who mocked Him or rejected Him. And still today, He seeks us out. We are saved because of Him. He was sent because of love.

John 3:16 says:

For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.

God wants you. He longs for you. He is for you, not against you. And He’s called us to share that same love with others. Sometimes kindness is the very first step toward sharing the gospel. You may never know the impact your kindness has on someone’s heart—but God does.

Reflection

Think about a time you felt left out, alone, or unseen. How did God show up for you in that moment?

Is there someone in your life right now who needs a word of kindness, an act of grace, or a reminder that they matter?

Kindness is more than being polite—it’s a doorway to someone’s heart. When you share kindness, you reflect the love of Jesus and open the possibility for someone to encounter Him.

Action Step

Look for one person today you can intentionally encourage. Whether it’s a stranger, a coworker, or a family member, ask God to help you see who needs that touch of His love through you.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for finding me when I felt alone. Thank You for calling me by name and welcoming me into Your family. Help me to see the people around me who need Your love. Give me the courage to be kind, even when it’s hard, and to use that kindness to point people toward You. I want to walk the narrow road with You, Jesus. Help me to get right with You, share kindness with others, and follow that road faithfully. Amen.
